Had some of these Beet Burgers yesterday for lunch. This time I used breadcrumbs from the freezer instead of oats. I’ve got some cooked aduki beans in the fridge to use in various things, so I used those instead of chickpeas. There was half a jar of fancy mushrooms...
My Diary
The last few days
It was my birthday and when Mike asked what I wanted, I light heartedly said – a weekend away! Well he only went and organised one didn’t he, first time in nearly 40 years!
On our Hols
We’ve been away! I would love to chat away to you on all the lovely things we do when away whilst they are happening, but Mike thinks it is a security risk and doesn’t like it. I suppose he’s right, it would be easy to find out where we live, so I, reluctantly,...
This week, a charity shop haul and overnight oats
I’ve got such a lot to tell you today. The last few days since I last spoke to you have simply shot by – don’t they all these days! Monday I have bored you all often enough to know that I struggle to lose weight. The gym recommended I see a nutritionist to see if they...
A long walk and UK Money Bloggers posts of the month for June 2016
I was intending to go up the gym today to do the first workout of the week. But Mike wanted to go out, so I said, alright, but I need to get some exercise in.
Insomnia, a good read and Halloumi for dinner
Had an ordinary day yesterday, neither slothful nor very active. No chocolate or any other caffiene. Went to bed at 10pm, as usual, read until 11pm, as usual, laid down to go to sleep, and stared at the ceiling for the next two and a half hours. At that point, I got...
High fat or low fat, where do you stand?
There was a very interesting article in the New Scientist this week. It is talking about the evidence that a diet with carbohydrates at the level that the government currently recommends is one of the big reasons for the obesity crisis. I find the argument compelling....
Groombridge Place
On Bank Holiday Monday this week, I went to Groombridge Place with my eldest, her husband and daughter. Their special event was the Wizard of Oz. There were character actors in several different places. I want that huge greenhouse! We walked miles. Playing in the...
Heathfield Agricultural Show
It was the Heathfield Agricultural Show today. True to form, the rain belted down overnight and was tipping it down when I got up this morning. The forecast was for sun later on, so fingers were crossed. The show is a big deal in the community, attracting thousands of visitors for the just one day event.
Veg, fish, steps, shopping and a demo
Freeze Dried I’ve been enjoying many different ways of using the dried vegetables and fruit. I’ve bought some onion powder, which has a pretty intense flavour, and I’m enjoying the idea of getting to grips with that, and topped up supplies of beetroot (I only had a...
Leftovers for lunch
We had a guest last night and had a roast chicken. I picked all the rest of the meat off this morning and the carcass is simmering as we speak. I did some roast cauliflower and carrots to go with the chicken. The veg were drizzled with oil and sprinkled with tandoori...
In the garden
Not much to report going on here. Just all the usual stuff.Actually got out in the garden this afternoon. It flipping needs it. It’s got to the stage now where I go out to do some tidying up, get overwhelmed by the sheer hugeness of the task, don’t know where to start, fiddle about for a bit, or walk round looking at everything, and give up and go back in!
