I have just been doing my meal planning for the week and this week, I shall be trialling some recipes from Miss South's book, Slow Cooked. The book is packed with delicious sounding recipes and I'm pretty sure some of them will cost out to our budget, or can be...
My Diary
I have been quiet I know for a week, but I have an excuse Miss!
Several things to report back on today. I have been quiet I know for a week, but I have an excuse Miss! There is a lot of colon cancer in my family, much of my Dad’s family dying from it, so I am monitored on a regular basis. Two years ago they found something that...
The cutest teeny tiny christmas stockings
Saw these cutest of cute little knitted mini Christmas Stockings on Elaine Colliar’s blog, Mortgage Free In Three on Monday. I made the tiny pink one, and will be making a tiny toy to go in it so that DGD can give it to her dolly. How cute is that! Then I thought I...
Fireworks, Fictitious Whiplash and Feta
More lovely family times were had this week. Both daughters, a DGD and a SIL, and myself went off to Dunorlan Park on Saturday night to watch the charity firework display held there every year. I love fireworks, the smell of the gunpowder, the crump that you feel in...
Pumpkins, crowbars and autumn leaves
Went to Sharnfold Farm on Wednesday to do some pumpkin carving and go on a Zombie walk with DD1 and DGD. Last year it was freezing cold and pouring with rain. This year it was pleasantly mild and absolutely torrentially raining. My top half was dry with my walking...
An unexpected little visitor
We had a little visitor tonight. DP had gone to the bathroom and after a small interval, I heard an exclamation, laughter and talking. He had lifted the loo seat and found this little frog tucked into the back and looking back at him! Goodness knows how the little...
Tables and Boards
I haven't posted for a few days, but I haven't disappeared and I hope you don't feel too neglected. I have been busy working on Thrifty Lesley in the background. I've been putting meal plans onto Pinterest and trying to get all the recipes onto the spanking new Tables...
What’s in season in October, can I grow anything in the garden now? and update on Action Aid
What’s in season in October, can I grow anything in the garden now?
A new vegetable? It was to me!
I grew one excellent box of radish earlier this year by planting radish seeds in a box in the greenhouse. I have tried several times since to repeat it, with no success at all. The last lot, I sowed in the garden, and they weren’t all that good, and I ended up leaving them so long I ended up with radish seed pods.
Smoothies, thickies and wedding invites
We have loads of plums in the freezer that I want to use. The challenge is that I am trying not to eat very much sugar at all, so I don’t want to use them in crumbles and pies etc. So, this morning, I got out a little pot of them and whizzed them up with 300ml fridge...
Old Socks – again, and Fabric Yarn, especially from T-Shirts
I have been reading the posts that Jen Gale has been making this week with extra interest. I always enjoy Jen's writing and this week she has been writing about wasting less and living more and it has been even more interesting. As a result, I have been musing this...
WI garden group, giant tomatoes and unreliable broadband
Had a great day at WI garden group today. I spoke about how to grow watercress, showed some growing plants and gave a few rooted cuttings. Then gave out pieces of one of my very precious Brandywine tomatoes for people to taste. There is nothing like a Brandywine,...
