Pottering in the kitchen and finding uses for plums
Pottering in the kitchen, one of my favourite activities, while I find uses for all those lovely plums
Plums, plums and more plums
Lots and lots of plums from our little trees. Need to find ways of using them now!
Vegetable Stir Fry, 51p a serving
This was supper last night. Haven’t had stir fry for a while, and saw some bean sprouts in Sainsbury’s, so that’s what we had. If you like stir fries and have them fairly often, it is really worth getting a little bottle of sesame oil. You may even have some already....
The first of the plum harvest
These are the first of the plums that I harvested today. We planted some Minarette trees out the front. A dozen trees in a tiny space, of assorted fruit, not much more than 2 feet apart. This is the first plum harvest, and I am really excited about it. The plum trees...
500g packs of Aduki Beans from Approved Foods for 20p!
Had my very first Approved Foods at a bargainous price. I'd never really fancied what they did before, there seemed to be too many cakes, chocolates and biscuits. Not that there is anything wrong with those, in moderation. It's the moderation bit I struggle with, if...

Croutons
Croutons are incredibly useful little things. They can shoosh up many a dish.
Cinnamon Toast for breakfast, 4p a slice
Breakfast this morning, frugalised Cinnamon Toast. Super quick and easy, and vegan too.
Cauliflower Leaves Pesto
What do you do with your cauliflower stalks? Steam them, curry them, put them in the soup? I made a pesto with some today and it was yummy – and very cheap!
Olive Drop Scones, Garlicky Soft Cheese, 28p a serving
These gorgeous little Olive Drop Scones were in today’s edition of ‘The I’. The paper billed them as a snack, but I think they would be scrummy as a main meal.
An abundance of Courgettes
I only have 2 plants, but they are like firecrackers at the moment, throwing off courgettes that would turn to marrows as soon as I turn my back. Managed to catch them all at the small and tender stage so far.
Variations on a Soft Cheese theme, from 18p sandwiches to 25p dinners
I still have some of the soft cheese from the Mackerel Pate left in the fridge and have been wondering what to do with it. It tastes really nice, doesn’t cost too much and seems to go a long way.
