Crumpets and pikelets, savoury and sweet
A little experiment today with the fridge dwelling Magic Dough. I thought I could almost certainly make crumpets with it. So I put a little in a bowl and beat in some water, so it looked like a Yorkshire pudding batter, greased some rings and poured a little batter...
Percy Pumpkin Soup, version 2, 15p a portion, and top quality singing for the price of an internet connection
A variation on Percy Pumpkin soup today. We don’t really ‘do’ Halloween, so after the fun of yesterday, Percy was roasted off in the oven this morning, peeled and turned into soup. Forgot to weigh him, but he was a small one. I used 200g red lentils, twice as much...
Smoked mackerel & creamy soft cheese on granary toast, 63p. Plus, how to stay on budget for the day
The simplest of simple breakfasts this morning. I got some yellow stickered smoked mackerel this week. So this morning I toasted a slice of granary bread, slathered on some soft cheese and flaked half a mackerel fillet on top. Simples! Slice toast, a 22 slice 75p...
Home made herby chicken goujons, mash and peas, 97p. Plus how to stay on budget for the day
We had these home made chicken goujons this evening. I used 250g chicken, half of a pack. But there was plenty, and a third of a pack would have been fine, so that is what I have priced it at. It works out 92p for the meal per person, which is more than we usually do...
An unexpected little visitor
We had a little visitor tonight. DP had gone to the bathroom and after a small interval, I heard an exclamation, laughter and talking. He had lifted the loo seat and found this little frog tucked into the back and looking back at him! Goodness knows how the little...
Lunches, Sinks and Ginger Cake for 16p a square
The lunching lady theme continued right through last week, right up to yesterday! I have been out for seven days on the trot, I can’t tell you just how much I need to catch up on. I was going to say I have a much less sociable diary this week until I glanced at it....

I haven't posted for a few days, but I haven't disappeared and I hope you don't feel too neglected. I have been busy working on Thrifty Lesley in the background. I've been putting meal plans onto Pinterest and trying to get all the recipes onto the spanking new Tables...

What’s in season in October, can I grow anything in the garden now? and update on Action Aid
What’s in season in October, can I grow anything in the garden now?
A new vegetable? It was to me!
I grew one excellent box of radish earlier this year by planting radish seeds in a box in the greenhouse. I have tried several times since to repeat it, with no success at all. The last lot, I sowed in the garden, and they weren’t all that good, and I ended up leaving them so long I ended up with radish seed pods.
Smoothies, thickies and wedding invites
We have loads of plums in the freezer that I want to use. The challenge is that I am trying not to eat very much sugar at all, so I don’t want to use them in crumbles and pies etc. So, this morning, I got out a little pot of them and whizzed them up with 300ml fridge...
