LBLUK 2014 – day 2, I really want a cup of tea!
Day 2 of the Live Below The Line challenge and I am really missing hot drinks. I usually have a bucket of tea as soon as I get up, closely followed by a bucket of coffee, all de-caff.
LBLUK 2014 – day one, successes and failures
Have had plenty to eat, with leftovers too. Drunk only water today, and will do until the end. Would LOVE a cup of tea! All in all, not a bad first day
Living Below The Line – 2014
Well, I made the decision to do it this year. So the question now is, when. Looking at my crowded diary, the only time I can get 5 consecutive days where I can do it start TOMORROW! Eek!
Quilts. Old, new and unmade
Inspired by the videos on Frugal Queens blog on quilt making, I have been reviewing things. When I trained to be a computer programmer, I had to stay in Guildford during the week for six months, only coming home at weekends. Staying at a B&B, I needed something to...
Robins in the garden, 19 freebie books, mahoosive, bright red bags & shall I do LBLUK?
I noticed yesterday that the gas meter cupboard door was hanging open. But when I went to close it I found this inside. That would explain the frequent sightings of a robin in the garden then! I tried all day today, on and off, to get a picture of him. But all I have...
Rosemary, mustard and cayenne scones, 12 for 53p
Was intending to make plain scones today, but ended up adding rosemary and cayenne, plus some oats. It worked very well. They had a lovely flavour from the rosemary, and a bit of a kick from the cayenne. The oats gave them quite a different texture, more short than usual. Nice tho
Aldi Bargains (3) Feta Stuffed Peppers 64p
Stuffed peppers for tea this evening using two of the Aldi peppers. The feta has been in the fridge and had a best before date of October 2013. But because it was sealed in the packet, it is fine. Now I have opened it, I will have to use it up quite quickly. For 2,...
Aldi Bargains (2) Mushroom Stroganoff, 70p
Went to a pub, the Bottle House, very close to where I used to live yesterday for a 60th Birthday Celebration for one of my brothers. It was a lovely family ‘do’. I had started the day with a migraine that was probably kicked off by a late night on the Saturday. The...
Mixed deli meat, tiny tomato seedling and Approved Food order
Did a nice dinner a couple of days ago after having a rummage. Found a pack of mixed deli meat in the freezer that I got from Morrisons. It was cheap I know otherwise I wouldn’t have got it to experiment with. But I had taken it out of the box to fit in the freezer...
Fruit Trees, Date & Apple Muffins and Sugar Paste Flowers
Nipped down to Eastbourne this morning to see DD1. Took down a couple of big pots to add to the three already there, and some compost, and we potted up the 5 little fruit trees that were her Christmas present. The plum is already covered in blossom and she should have...
Asparagus and Pea Risotto, £1.06 a portion, or frugalised to 75p
Did a lovely risotto yesterday using some asparagus Mike brought home. Used up the last of the Arborio rice, so next time I do one, I’ll try the value rice and form an opinion on using it. Also this time, I used 2 tblsps of lemon juice from a bottle rather than a...
Heart & Soul and lots of meat
This is part of an experiment I did a while ago and definitely one for the carnivores. Veggies, look away now. I went to one of the two excellent local butchers and ordered some ox cheeks and heart. Goodness, just dug out the receipt and it was 25th September 2013,...
