Stuck in limbo in a loft extension
It’s ages since I’ve done a catchup post. I’m trying to update lots of recipe posts to make them look nicer and be more usable, bring back cheap family recipes from the dead with all the recipe loading that involves, and I’m just starting doing another one for my other great love, after cooking, books. So between that lot, and all the other demands on my time of normal life, I’ve not been telling about what has been happening
If we’ve known each other for a while, you might remember that we extended the kitchen. That worked really well and has made a huge difference to the house. We had a large loft and decided that we’d like to convert that as well. We wanted a bedroom each end and a bathroom in the middle. Nothing complicated, but my goodness, it took us a long time to get the go-ahead.
This is what we were after
After 3 years of trying to get permission, we finally started work at the end of August 2019. We were nearly there when lockdown arrived. All the main build had been done, the roof replaced, a beautiful gable put in, a very attractive pale grey cladding applied, a lovely floor put down and we were on the last few bits. The stairs need the glass fitted underneath the bannister and a carpenter was hard at work building loads of useful storage. The wardrobe doors in the main bedroom had not been done, and there was a lot of painting to be done, when bam, lockdown, and we’ve been in limbo ever since. Very close, but not enough to be able to move up there, or bring back all the stuff that’s in storage while the work was going on. I can’t even remember what is there now!
I can’t stand painting, and am not particularly good at it. I want a good level of finish, with no dust, bristles or insect legs in it, and I just can’t seem to manage that. I can slip, slap, slop paint on, but no better than that. We’d got a quote for a painter, but all that is on hold. My husband is doing some, and I appreciate the effort more than the stuck in dust and bits

It looks really lovely Lesley. I love all the built in shelving and cupboards which will all help to keep everywhere nice and tidy, and I do love a proper walk in shower. What a shame you are in limbo, so near and yet so far 🙁
