Cauliflower Leaves Pesto
What do you do with your cauliflower stalks? Steam them, curry them, put them in the soup? I made a pesto with some today and it was yummy – and very cheap!

These gorgeous little Olive Drop Scones were in today’s edition of ‘The I’. The paper billed them as a snack, but I think they would be scrummy as a main meal.
An abundance of Courgettes
I only have 2 plants, but they are like firecrackers at the moment, throwing off courgettes that would turn to marrows as soon as I turn my back. Managed to catch them all at the small and tender stage so far.

I still have some of the soft cheese from the Mackerel Pate left in the fridge and have been wondering what to do with it. It tastes really nice, doesn’t cost too much and seems to go a long way.
Free Berries From A Good Friend
So went to my friends house today and picked some berries. Came away with 3 boxes of blackcurrants and 2 of red currants. There are lots more there, but I don’t have any freezer space!

No frugal food at all today, so thought I’d share my day. It was my birthday this week, and today my eldest daughter took me out.

An experiment yesterday with a recipe I cooked all last summer from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s book Three Good Things. . He slow cooks courgettes in olive oil and garlic, then mixes them with mozzarella and pasta, tops them with parmesan and bakes them in the oven....
